RHA lead a multi-disciplinary design team in the development of a Master Plan for Grape Day Park in Escondido. Founded on 1908 and the oldest park in the city, it has suffered from a lack of use due to old facilities and lack of family oriented activities. The goal of the project was to create a fantastic park for the entire community, develop ideas and plans for the children’s playground expansion around the stump of the Eucalyptus tree, celebrate the history of Escondido and the park, and improve linkages with adjacent public facilities and gathering places including Maple Street Plaza, Bicycle trails, Escondido Creekwalk trail, and Children’s Museum. As part of the Master Plan a new playground was designed that represents the history of the park as well as the region. The new playground was connected to the existing playground with “wood” bridges made from concrete to stay consistent with the historic theme of the park.
